Emergency Travel Plan

Trust GEBA - Our Affordable Option in a Family Health Emergency

GEBA’s Emergency Travel Plan (ETP) was created at the request of members, to support federal employees assigned to a different duty station—and suddenly faced with a family health-related emergency. Your only thought at this moment should be getting to your family as quickly as you can, not the high cost of last-minute travel. That’s where GEBA is proud to help.

Coverage Highlights: Reimbursement of up to 80% (up to $1,500 per person) of round-trip economy class air or train fare in the event of unexpected late-minute travel due to the sudden death or very serious injury/illness that places the family member in serious condition. A patient in serious condition is 1. acutely ill with an uncertain chance of recovery and 2. hospitalized in an acute or intensive care setting.

In the event that economy seats are not available or participant chooses seats in another fare class, GEBA will reimburse up to 50% (up to $1,500 per covered plan participant) of the air or train fare and applicable taxes and fees.

Travel must begin within 21 days of the injury, illness, or death.

Choose GEBA and join approximately 16,000 satisfied members of the intelligence community, broader federal workforce, the military, and their family members. Membership in GEBA is free – and includes more choices and savings – as long as you maintain coverage.

The Plan costs just $78 per person per year— or $3 per paycheck*

Last Minute Travel Is Expensive!

This coverage is ideal for those on PCS or who live far from family and might need to return home quickly in an emergency.

Ideal for adult children or aging parents who are on a fixed income or limited means to travel if there was a family emergency.

Of course, fares will vary, but here’s an example of how much you could save with GEBA's Emergency Travel Plan:

Cost of Last-Minute Airfare   $900
ETP Coach Reimbursement (80%)  $720
Net Out-of-Pocket Cost  $180
